What is a Private Yacht Charter in Komodo?
A private yacht charter in Komodo National Park is the exclusive hire of an entire phinisi or motor yacht (typically 25-50 metres) for one party of 4-12 guests, including crew, captain, chef, dive guides, fuel, port fees and a custom-tailored itinerary across Padar, Pink Beach, Manta Point and the dragon islands of Komodo and Rinca. Unlike shared liveaboards, no other guests share your decks, your dining table, or your dive schedule.
At Komodo Private Yacht Curators we operate as an independent boutique brokerage based in Labuan Bajo, Flores. We do not own a single vessel. Instead, we curate a hand-picked fleet of seven Indonesian-built phinisi and three modern motor yachts, every one of them inspected on the dock by our team within the last 90 days. When you charter through us, you are not booking a stateroom — you are booking the entire boat, the entire crew, and the entire week.
Why Charter Privately Instead of Joining a Shared Cabin?
Most travellers arriving in Labuan Bajo for the first time imagine the choice is between a 3-day open trip and a 4-day open trip. It is not. The real question, once you understand the geography of the park, is whether you want to share the deck with strangers or sail with only the people you came with. Komodo’s anchorage points — Pink Beach, the southern bay of Padar, the manta cleaning stations at Karang Makassar — are small. On a busy August morning there can be twenty boats clustered at Manta Point. A shared liveaboard arrives on the operator’s schedule and leaves on the operator’s schedule. A private charter arrives at 06:10 because that is when the mantas feed, and stays in the water until 08:40 because the visibility is forty metres and your group is the only one above the reef.
That difference — control of the clock — is what HNW couples, multi-generational families and private groups of four to twelve people pay for. Everything else flows from it.

The Komodo Private Yacht Curators Fleet
Our fleet is segmented into three tiers so that a couple celebrating their tenth anniversary, a family of seven travelling with grandparents, and a group of twelve close friends can each find a yacht that fits both their group size and their idea of comfort at sea.
Entry tier — Authentic Phinisi (4-8 pax)
Built in South Sulawesi by Bugis shipwrights, these 28-32 metre phinisi sleep four to eight guests across two to four cabins. Hardwood decks, freshly varnished hulls, en-suite bathrooms with hot water, air-conditioned cabins and a sun deck wide enough to hold yoga every morning. The food is local — grilled snapper caught off the boat that afternoon, gado-gado, beef rendang, and tropical fruit platters. Best for couples and small families who want the romance of a traditional sailing yacht without the price tag of a luxury motor yacht.
Mid tier — Premium Phinisi (8-10 pax)
Larger 35-42 metre phinisi with four to five cabins, a master suite with a private balcony, professional dive compressor on board, and a chef trained in both Indonesian and Mediterranean cuisine. These are the most popular vessels for groups of eight to ten — extended families, two couples travelling together, or small corporate retreats.
Luxury tier — Modern Yacht & Superyacht-class Phinisi (10-12 pax)
Our luxury fleet includes a 50-metre new-build phinisi with five king-bed cabins, a separate dining saloon with panoramic windows, a fully equipped dive deck, a tender with twin Yamaha 250s, and a butler-trained service team. Best for private groups of ten to twelve, milestone celebrations, and clients who travel exclusively at the top of the market. See the full fleet and sample prices on our charter page.
How a Curated Charter is Different from a Booking-Engine Charter
You can find phinisi listings on the major travel aggregators. We know the captains of most of those vessels personally — many of them are our charter partners. The difference is the curation layer. When you call us we do not push the boat with the most availability that month. We ask seven questions: how many of you, what ages, dive certified or beginner, how many days, mobility considerations, dietary restrictions, and what kind of trip you remember most fondly. Your answer to that last question tells us more than the others combined. From there we suggest two — never more than three — vessels and we explain in plain English why one is better suited to your group than the other.
Then we negotiate. Because we hold a cluster of dates with each captain across the year, we have leverage that an individual booker calling cold does not. On average our clients pay 8-15% less than the captain’s published rack rate, and on shoulder-month departures (March, October, November) the gap can reach 25%.
Where You Will Sail
The classic Komodo loop runs three to five days from Labuan Bajo. You will see Padar Island at sunrise from its three-bay viewpoint, swim at Pink Beach where crushed Foraminifera shell tints the sand, drift over manta cleaning stations at Karang Makassar, walk under the gaze of Komodo dragons on Rinca and Komodo islands, snorkel the bommies at Kanawa and Kelor, and bathe in the sandbar at Taka Makassar that disappears at high tide. Captain Made will tell you, on your first morning aboard, which of those will be best on which day — and he will adjust the route based on wind, swell and tide rather than a printed itinerary. Our suggested 4-day and 5-day itineraries are here as a starting point.
Pricing — Honest Numbers
The single most asked question we receive is what does a private yacht charter in Komodo cost. The honest answer depends on tier, season and yacht size. As a starting reference: entry-tier phinisi for 6 guests start from USD 6,800 for a 4-day charter; mid-tier for 8 guests run USD 11,500-16,000 for a 4-day charter; luxury 50-metre superyacht-class vessels for 10-12 guests run USD 28,000-48,000 for the same window. We have published a full cost breakdown for 2026 here, including line items for fuel surcharge, park fees and port clearance.
When to Sail
The Komodo season runs effectively April through early November, with the dry months of June, July, August, September and early October offering the calmest seas and best underwater visibility. April-May and October-November are our favourite shoulder months — fewer boats at the anchorages, lower rates, and surprisingly good weather. Mantas peak December through February but the seas can be rough and several captains drydock in those months for annual maintenance. We will tell you honestly which months suit your priorities.
Why Komodo Private Yacht Curators
We are an independent brokerage. We do not own boats — that means we have no incentive to push you onto a vessel just because it is sitting empty at the dock. Our team has personally sailed every yacht on the curated list at least once in the last twelve months. We hold a curated WhatsApp line for every active client throughout the trip so that if a swell forecast changes mid-charter we can re-route in real time. And we are based in Indonesia, with a Bali office and a Labuan Bajo on-the-ground partner, which means transfers, paperwork and the small fixes that make luxury travel feel effortless are handled by people who live here.
Booking Window and Deposit Terms
Peak-season dates (June through September, plus the Christmas/New Year window) are routinely booked 8-12 months in advance. Shoulder months can sometimes be confirmed 60-90 days out. We hold a 25% deposit to confirm a yacht and date. The balance is due 60 days before sail date. Trip cancellation insurance is something we strongly recommend and can refer you to a partner broker for, but we do not sell it ourselves.
Speak with a Curator
If you are considering a private yacht charter in Komodo for 2026 or 2027, the first conversation is free. We will spend 30-45 minutes on a call understanding your group, your dates and your priorities, and we will follow up the same week with two or three vessel options matched to your brief, with all-in pricing and a draft itinerary. Email bd@juaraholding.com or message us on WhatsApp at +62 811 3941 4563. Curated, fully-private. No day-trippers. Just your charter.
