Pricing and Cost
How much does a private yacht charter in Komodo cost?
For a 4-day 3-night charter departing Labuan Bajo: entry-tier authentic phinisi for 6 guests run USD 6,800-9,500 all-in, mid-tier premium phinisi for 8-10 guests run USD 11,500-16,000, luxury 50-metre phinisi or modern motor yacht for 10-12 guests run USD 28,000-48,000. The price includes the boat, crew, all meals, park fees, fuel and transfers. Full breakdown is here.
What is included in the headline price?
Full and exclusive use of the yacht and crew, captain plus chef plus dive master plus deckhands plus hostess (cruise director on luxury tier), all meals and standard beverages, Komodo National Park entrance and ranger fees, port and harbour clearance, snorkelling gear, tender for shore landings, and round-trip airport transfers in Labuan Bajo.
What is not included?
International and domestic flights, travel and marine evacuation insurance, premium wines and spirits, scuba diving on entry-tier vessels (USD 35-50 per dive), crew gratuities (industry standard 5-10% of charter value), spa treatments on luxury tier, and onshore restaurant meals if you arrive a day early.
What deposit is required to confirm a booking?
25% of the total charter value. The deposit is paid by international wire transfer in USD or EUR to a curated escrow account. The balance of 75% is due 60 days before sail date. Cancellation terms are detailed in the charter contract — broadly, the deposit is non-refundable but can be redeployed against alternate dates within 18 months in case of unforeseen events.
Route, Itinerary and Stops
How many days should I charter for?
A 4-day 3-night charter is the minimum that delivers a satisfying Komodo experience — Padar, Pink Beach, Komodo Island for dragons, and Manta Point are all reachable. A 5-day 4-night charter unlocks Manta Alley in southern Komodo and is meaningfully better value per night. 7-night charters add quieter southern anchorages and allow time for genuinely lazy days. Suggested itineraries are here.
Can I customise the itinerary?
Yes. The printed itinerary is a draft and the captain adjusts every morning based on wind, tide and your group’s preferences. Common customisations are diving-focused routes, family-with-kids routes, honeymoon routes and photography routes.
Cabins, Group Size and Capacity
How many guests fit on a private charter?
Our curated fleet sleeps 4 to 12 guests. Entry-tier phinisi take 4-8 guests across 2-4 cabins. Mid-tier take 8-10 guests across 4-5 cabins. Luxury yachts take 10-12 guests across 5-6 cabins. Larger group enquiries (14+) are possible with one specific 60-metre vessel — ask the curator.
Can I choose my cabin?
On a private charter the entire cabin allocation is yours to assign. Most groups assign the master suite to the senior couple or the celebrating couple, and split the remaining cabins by sub-group. The chef and chief steward will accommodate your assignment. Are children welcome?
Yes. Unlike many shared liveaboards which set a 12+ or 16+ minimum age, private charters welcome children of any age. We adjust the itinerary to suit younger guests — shorter shore landings, more snorkelling at sheltered bays, paddleboard sessions at Pink Beach. Captain and crew brief on safety procedures specific to children on day one.
Comfort, Safety and Conditions
What if I get seasick?
The classic Komodo route shelters inside the park most of the time, with calmer waters than the open ocean. Dramamine and patches work for most travellers. The captain can adjust the route to favour the most sheltered anchorages if your group is sea-sensitive. April-October generally has gentler conditions; December-March is rougher.
What is the weather like?
April-November is the dry season with calm seas and predictable weather. December-March is the wet/green season with stronger westerly winds and more rain. Our month-by-month guide is here.
Are the boats safe?
Every yacht in our curated fleet carries Indonesian flag-state safety certification, life rafts for the full guest manifest, fire suppression, satellite communications and standard Class A first-aid supplies. Every captain holds a Class III Indonesian master mariner certificate. All vessels are inspected by our team within the last 90 days. Marine evacuation insurance is strongly recommended in addition.
Food and Beverage
What kind of food is served on board?
The chef cooks three meals a day plus afternoon snacks. Entry-tier vessels lean Indonesian (grilled fish, gado-gado, rendang, sambal-driven curries, tropical fruit). Mid-tier vessels split fifty-fifty between Indonesian and Mediterranean. Luxury-tier chefs hold fine-dining backgrounds and present multi-course tasting menus. Dietary preferences (vegetarian, vegan, halal, gluten-free, kosher with notice) are honoured.
What about drinks?
Soft drinks, mineral water, freshly squeezed juices, coffee and standard local beer are included. Premium wines, champagne and spirits are charged at list price or available on a corkage basis if you bring your own.
Captain, Crew and Experience
Who is my captain?
Most of our captains have 12-25 years of experience in Indonesian waters. Captain Made (luxury fleet) has 22 years in Komodo and Raja Ampat. Captain Hasan (mid-tier) has 18 years. Each captain speaks conversational English; the cruise director on luxury tier is fully fluent. We will introduce your captain by name on the pre-trip planning call.
How experienced is the crew?
Crew rotation is light by industry standards — most crew members on our partner boats have served at least three seasons on the same vessel. The dive masters are PADI- or SSI-certified, often dive-master-trainer level, and many are themselves former captains.
Marine Life
Will I definitely see mantas?
Manta sightings at Karang Makassar are roughly 80-90% reliable in the dry season (April-October) on a falling-tide morning drift. November-February is manta peak with even higher reliability but rougher seas. Captain Made will tell you which morning of your charter has the best tidal window for the manta drop.
Will I see Komodo dragons?
Yes — sightings on the ranger-guided treks at Komodo Island and Rinca Island are essentially guaranteed. Rinca actually has higher dragon density than Komodo and is often quieter.
Transfers and Logistics
How do I get to Labuan Bajo?
Komodo Airport (LBJ) is served by direct flights from Jakarta, Bali, Surabaya and Singapore. Most charter clients fly in one day before departure to allow buffer for any flight delays. We arrange the airport transfer to the harbour as part of the charter.
Is there mobile signal and Wi-Fi on board?
Mobile signal (Telkomsel) is intermittent — strong near Labuan Bajo and at Pink Beach, weak or absent elsewhere in the park. Mid-tier and luxury vessels carry Starlink for guests; entry-tier vessels typically do not. If reliable connectivity is essential, we will route you to a Starlink-equipped boat. Can I rent dive gear or do I need to bring my own?
All our partner vessels carry rental gear (BCDs, regulators, fins, masks, weights, tanks). Most experienced divers bring their own mask, fins and dive computer for fit and familiarity; the boat covers everything else.Booking and Cancellation
How far in advance should I book?
Peak July-August dates routinely fill 8-12 months in advance. Christmas/New Year fills 12-18 months in advance. Shoulder months (April-May, October-November) can sometimes be confirmed 60-90 days out. Last-minute fills (under 21 days) come up occasionally on yachts with empty gaps and discount sharply.
What happens if my flight is cancelled or delayed?
The captain will hold the dock and depart on your actual arrival, time permitting. We work with you on the WhatsApp curator line throughout to coordinate. For multi-day delays we adjust the charter itinerary to compress remaining days while keeping the same final disembark date. Travel insurance covers significant disruption.Speak with a Curator
