What Does Private Yacht Charter Komodo Mean in 2026?
A private yacht charter in Komodo is the full and exclusive hire of an Indonesian phinisi or modern motor yacht for a single party of guests, with no shared cabins, no shared deck, and no shared schedule. The charter price covers the entire vessel, full crew, all meals, park fees, fuel and a tailored itinerary through Komodo National Park departing from Labuan Bajo, Flores. It is the structural opposite of a shared liveaboard.
This page is the long-form, honest reference for anyone seriously considering a private charter in Komodo. We have written it the way we would brief a friend over coffee — what you actually get, what it actually costs, and the questions you should ask before signing a contract. If you are still in the early-research stage, start with our private vs shared liveaboard comparison.
The Curated Fleet — Three Tiers
We segment the curated fleet into three tiers — entry, mid and luxury. Each tier is defined by yacht length, cabin count, crew-to-guest ratio, and the on-board service standard, not by age of vessel. We have new-build phinisi in the entry tier and 12-year-old phinisi in the luxury tier. What matters is how the boat is run.
| Tier | Yacht length | Cabins | Max guests | Crew | Sample 4D3N price (low-shoulder) | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Entry — Authentic Phinisi | 28-32 m | 2-4 | 4-8 | 6-8 | USD 6,800-9,500 | Couples, small families, traditional-sail romance |
| Mid — Premium Phinisi | 35-42 m | 4-5 | 8-10 | 9-12 | USD 11,500-16,000 | Multi-gen families, two couples, small corporate |
| Luxury — Superyacht-class & Modern Motor Yacht | 45-55 m | 5-6 | 10-12 | 14-18 | USD 28,000-48,000 | Milestone celebrations, HNW groups, full-buyout privacy |
Entry tier — what you actually get
Two-cabin and four-cabin authentic phinisi, hand-built in Bira, South Sulawesi by Bugis shipwrights. Hardwood decks, brass fittings, freshly varnished hulls. Each cabin has air conditioning, an en-suite bathroom with hot water, and a queen or twin configuration. The galley produces three meals a day plus afternoon snacks; the chef is Indonesian and the menu leans toward grilled fish, fresh salads, sambal-driven curries and tropical fruit. There is one dive master on board; scuba is offered as a paid extra on most entry vessels because the air compressor is rented per trip. Snorkelling gear is included. The crew speak conversational English. The entry tier is the right choice for couples on honeymoon and families of four to six who want the romance of a traditional sailing yacht without the price tag of a modern superyacht.
Mid tier — what you actually get
Larger 35-42 metre phinisi with four to five cabins. The master suite typically has a king bed, a writing desk, a private balcony or large port windows, and a bathroom with rainshower. The other cabins range from queen to twin configurations. The dining saloon is air-conditioned and seats the full guest manifest with a dedicated host. Mid-tier vessels carry their own dive compressor and a dive master plus assistant; scuba is included up to two dives per day for certified divers. The chef has typically trained either in Bali fine-dining or on a previous luxury vessel; the menu is split fifty-fifty between Indonesian and Mediterranean, with breakfast cooked to order. There is a sun deck with bean bags, a covered al fresco dining area, and a paddleboard plus two-seater kayak on board.
Luxury tier — what you actually get
Our luxury fleet is led by a 50-metre new-build phinisi with five king-bed cabins, a separate dining saloon with panoramic windows, a 30-square-metre sun deck with day beds, a dedicated dive deck with rinse tank and gear-up benches, a tender with twin Yamaha 250s, and a butler-trained service team headed by an English-speaking cruise director. Bedlinen is changed daily. Spa treatments are offered on board with a visiting therapist on multi-day charters. The chef holds a fine-dining background and the wine list runs to 40+ labels. This tier is built for milestone celebrations — significant birthdays, anniversaries, post-wedding family gatherings — and for HNW clients who want the full-buyout privacy of a superyacht charter without leaving Indonesian waters.
What is Included in the Charter Price
Every charter quoted by Komodo Private Yacht Curators includes the following as standard. We are explicit about this because in some open-market quotes the headline price is just for the boat, and fuel, park fees, food and dive equipment are stacked on top.
- Full and exclusive use of the yacht for the booked dates
- Captain, chef, dive master, deckhands, hostess; cruise director on luxury tier
- All meals — breakfast, lunch, dinner, plus afternoon tea and snacks
- Soft drinks, mineral water, freshly squeezed juices, coffee, and standard local beer (Bintang)
- Komodo National Park entrance fees, ranger fees and port clearance
- Snorkelling gear including masks, fins and life vests
- Speedboat tender for shore landings and snorkel/dive drops
- Two-way airport transfers in Labuan Bajo (LBJ airport)
- Pre-trip itinerary planning call with the curator and captain
What is Not Included
- International and domestic flights to Labuan Bajo
- Travel insurance (we strongly recommend a policy with marine evacuation cover)
- Premium wines, spirits and champagne (chargeable on a corkage-or-list basis depending on yacht)
- Scuba diving on entry-tier vessels (USD 35-50 per dive when offered)
- Onshore restaurant meals if you choose to dine off the boat in Labuan Bajo
- Crew gratuities (industry standard 5-10% of charter value, at your discretion)
- Spa treatments on luxury tier (USD 75-120 per treatment)
Itinerary Highlights
Most private charters run 3, 4, 5 or 7 nights from Labuan Bajo. The classic 4-day and 5-day routes cover the essentials of Komodo National Park — Padar at sunrise, Pink Beach by mid-morning, manta drift snorkel at Karang Makassar in the afternoon, anchor at Kalong Island for sunset and the famous flying-fox migration. Day two takes in Komodo Island for the dragon trek, Pink Beach for swimming, and an overnight at Gili Lawa Darat with a sunset hike. Full day-by-day itinerary suggestions are here.
Booking Process
Step one — discovery call
30-45 minutes on the phone or video call. We ask about your group size, ages, dive certification, dietary needs, mobility considerations and what you most want from the trip. There is no obligation and no charge.
Step two — vessel shortlist
Within 48 hours we send you two or three vessel options matched to your brief, each with a draft itinerary, photo galleries, deck plans, and an all-in price including park fees and transfers.
Step three — hold and contract
Once you choose a vessel we hold the dates for 10 days while the charter contract is countersigned. A 25% deposit confirms the booking. The balance is due 60 days before sail date.
Step four — pre-trip planning
Around 30 days out we run a detailed planning call with you, the captain and the chef — finalising the itinerary, dietary preferences, any dive certification levels, celebration touches (birthday cakes, milestone arrangements), and arrival logistics in Labuan Bajo.
Why Charter Through a Curator and Not Direct
You can find phinisi captains on Instagram. You can email them direct. You can sometimes save 5-10% by cutting out a broker. Here is what you give up when you do.
You give up dispute resolution. If the air conditioning in your cabin fails on day two and the captain shrugs, who do you call? You give up rate leverage. We hold cluster bookings with most captains across the year, which gives us pricing power that an individual booking does not. You give up the curation layer — the honest answer to the question of which boat is right for your specific group, given the season, the dates and the experience you are buying. And you give up an Indonesian-based partner who handles the small fixes — the missed transfer, the lost luggage in Jakarta, the dietary substitution at 10 pm — that make luxury travel feel effortless.
Honest Notes on Pricing Variability
The price ranges in our table are real ranges, not bait pricing. Three things move a quote within those ranges.
- Season. Peak July-August adds 15-25% to shoulder rates. November-March (where the boat operates at all) discounts 10-25%.
- Charter length. Per-night rate drops noticeably at 5+ nights — the boat earns more across a longer charter and crew turnaround is amortised over more days.
- Specials. Last-minute charters (under 21 days out) on a yacht with an unfilled gap can come in at 20-35% under rack rate. We email our newsletter list when these come up.
Speak with a Curator
If you would like a curated shortlist for your dates and group, email bd@juaraholding.com or message +62 811 3941 4563 on WhatsApp. We respond to enquiries within one business day, usually faster. Curated, fully-private. No day-trippers. Just your charter.
